BMW Preventative Maintenance: Every 5,000 Miles

BMW VANOS Repair & Service

The standard BMW service intervals is every 5,000 miles, though a Condition Based Service monitor will track important systems and alert you if other maintenance is required. The routine BMW scheduled maintenance list includes the following:

  • Brake fluid check
  • Brake inspection, front and rear
  • Cabin air filter inspection
  • Coolant check
  • Engine inspection
  • Engine oil check
  • Tire rotation, if necessary
  • Vehicle inspection
  • Wiper blade inspection

When you bring your BMW in for routine maintenance, like a BMW oil change, we’ll check all of these components and replace what’s needed. We’ll also work with your car’s Condition-Based Service monitor to determine what needs to be replaced and when.

Recommended BMW Service Schedule

Other maintenance intervals will vary in frequency, depending on your model and how you drive. Refer to your manual to be certain about maintenance schedule, but here’s what you can expect:

  • Every 5,000 miles: replace engine oil, oil filter, and coolant
  • Every 10,000 miles: inspect and replace fuel filters
  • Every 20,000 miles:
    • Replace brake fluid (after the first replacement, every 60,000 miles)
    • Replace transmission fluid on manual-transmission BMWs
  • Every 50,000 miles:
    • Replace engine air filter and spark plugs
    • Inspect and replace brake pads and brake rotors, as necessary
    • Replace transmission fluid on automatic-transmission BMWs

After 90,000 miles, continue performing the 5,000-mile maintenance and repeat the above list of maintenance intervals.

In addition, keep in mind that although there are no specific maintenance items to be performed at 50,000 miles, Your battery might also need to be replaced around the 50,000-mile mark
